About Washington Park

Established 1901 Acres: 150 Washington Park on the west side of Springfield is a 150-acre site added to the park district in 1901. This is one of the historic parks, developed as termini of the urban trolley line in use at the time. Designed by Ossian Simonds, noted for his naturalistic style of landscape design, the park is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its design and many features date back to its original development. This park is bounded by South Grand Avenue and the Illini Country Club on the south, Chatham Road on the west, Fayette Avenue and Pasfield Golf Course on the north and Orendorff Parkway on the east. An elegant entrance to the park from the east is formed by Williams Boulevard that extends from Walnut Street

Out of towner here. Only saw a fraction of the park. It was pretty nice. There was a lot of goose poop all over the place. We thought the Bell Tower is it going to ring on the hour, but it never did. There was a decent amount of parking.

Amazing and beautiful first time visiting but was a little chilly for us so our visit was very short enjoy the atmosphere and the waterfowl and squirrels that were seen. Wonderful world of its own. The botanical garden was closed but one day would love to come back and see all sorry no pictures to post as I used my boy friend's phone but plenty of beautiful photo opportunities available

This place is awesome! We got there just in time to hear the tower go off and it was the BEST THING EVER. The walking path was very scenic full of beautiful flowers and butterflies. There was even this little grass labyrinth! Overall, great time. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was my first time visiting Washington Park. Despite coming to see it in the winter, it was beautiful! I also thought it was so cool to have an indoor botanical garden to be able to see beautiful flowers throughout the year. Bring a penny and two quarters to get to make a botanical garden penny. This is definitely a park I will come back to see every season.
